Please remember never to leave an animal unattended in a car, even just to get your shopping. They are at risk of being stolen. And can suffer from heat stroke and die in hot weather. Even with window left open and in the shade the car temp reach lethal levels very fast.
If you are taking them with you on a longer journey please make frequent stops and insure they have water and a good air flow. Speak to your vet for advice before you undertake a trip if you are unsure.
Here a good old fashioned tip for you if you are travelling with your dog in the car, put a wet towel under them either in there crate or on the seat (don't forget to damp proof the seat ) as the towel dries it cools the air around your pet and keeps them cool.
This tip works for cats, ferrets, rabbits etc .too also if you put a wet towel over the window gap (as the air comes through it cools it down) only do this one when you are stopped though or the police will have a word.
Or you can put a damp towel in the bottom of the crate or cage and one on the top this gives shade as well as cool air.
You can buy cage fans but carful how you attach them make sure pet hair , tail , wiskers etc.cannot get caught in the fan.
